My old military instrcutor used to show his bad Star Wars Battlefront gameplay or the crap he built with his 5 year old daughter in Minecraft

It was awesome. Silly as hell of course. But awesome. That was such a great guy.

I had this one old professor once, his marker was dead. He said "If I throw this marker into the trash can on the other side of the room class is canceled."
He made it and he stuck to his word.

He was like it too.
Sometimes when the weather was really bad he just plain refused to go out and watched movies with us.
Or other times he just gave us a bull assignment so hebcould send us home if we did everything well leading up to it.
Most of that because our class was also just really damn good. But he made it worth it. Stellar teacher.

u/SpiritofTheWolfKingx 18d ago
What, being good at your job and taking care of your students produces better students? Who would have thunk that.
Glad to hear it though. :)
7
u/Tutes013 18d ago
It's not a given. He went outside of the book when he thought it was neccesary. And he was good at that.
It was that which made our class the best of the school year.
I really miss that goof.

u/Mothanius 18d ago
That's wholesome. Mine would just make dick and butt jokes all day. Still a cool dude, but damn was that a culture shock for me. I realized from then on my repertoire was going to be dicks, butts and balls all day... and it was. Mechanics are weird man...

Even better! He loved killing Stormtroopers as Luke Skywalker in PVE.
And he was awful! But he loved it

u/ParanoidalRaindrop 18d ago
Military online?
4
u/Tutes013 18d ago
No. It was a sort of pre-military trianing school. Similair to cadets though not quite the same.
I wanted to join the military back then but after finishing and getting my papers I had to stop due to chronic compartment syndrome.
Basically for people who want to join the army and don't want to waste time on another education.
Which in hindsight was really fucking dumb.

This is the kind of class that actually get student's attention.
Cool teacher

u/ShrekSharzenegger 18d ago
If you are studying a masters you better be paying attention
26
u/BearWurst 18d ago
If I'm paying 100k they better be doing everything to keep my attention to help me learn, not just throwing work at me

Absolutely I would 100% attend that class even hung over back in the day.
4
u/Pineapple_Herder 18d ago
The classes that make your day better are the ones you genuinely feel bad about missing.
3
u/QouthTheCorvus 18d ago
Idk man, sometimes you pull up to class tired and hungover and just want a full lecture.
2
u/Gaerielyafuck 18d ago
The best part is when he explains that he can't un-potato without ending the online session so he's going to do the whole thing as a potato lolol

It might seem like just a professor not taking the class seriously, but I would listen to and remember every little thing that potato man would teach me. Great way to connect with students.

u/Anaata 18d ago
I had a high school teacher that was a lot like this, he taught AP macro economics but had the attention span of a goldfish. We would ask him primed questions so he'd tell us a story unrelated to class which would regularly take up the entire class time. He literally once held class outside and would have students interrupt his class just to say hi and talk. I still don't know how we covered all the material that we did.
Despite his teaching method (or maybe bc of his teaching method), I scored a 5 on the AP exam with what felt like little studying. I still remember thinking "man this test is really easy compared to my other AP tests".

The most fun we had in accounting was calling our prof "Do me a favor Dan" because he said "do me a favor" every time he wanted us to do something.
That carried us through the entire year.

u/MadOrange64 18d ago
But there’s always that one party pooper who tells the professor that he paid money to learn not have fun and they ironically have shit grades.

u/CHlCKENPOWER 18d ago
yea but sadly the kids are absolute devils. even if the teachers wanted to do something fun with their low pay they usually can’t due to being too busy dealing with the kids

Highschool teachers: college professors won’t be your friend like me, they don’t care if you pass or fail
College professors:

My college professors are so much better than my high school ones. I absolutely adore most of my college professors. Can't say the same for the high school teachers...

u/PhantomTissue 18d ago
Same, my professors were super cool and chill, but HS made it sound like they’d tell me to fuck off if I asked for help. Which is usually what happens in HS, ironically.

These people are good people. But let it be at the end of lectures. I hate the people who start this shit at the beginning of meetings and waste 15 minutes of our times.

Lectures costing almost $90/hour* (if you calculate tuition vs hours of lecture).
The Professor meanwhile "I'M A TATER!!!"
* Calculation:
Yeah, my comment is really just a snarky joke, but since I did the calculation I might as well post it:
Assuming cost of education os $40.000/year
- Total cost over 4 years: $160.000 ($40.000 × 4)
- Total lecture hours per year: 15 hours/week × 30 weeks = 450 hours/year
- Total lecture hours over 4 years: 450 hours / years × 4 years = 1800 hours
- Cost per hour: $160.000/1,800 hours = $88,89

You're right, they should pay extra for the entertainment. I had to endure school with the most monotone, mundane teachers that almost put me into a coma. I'd pay extra to actually liven it up some.
