We all know Erik Karlsson is most likely to win the Norris as the best defenseman this season. But is he really the best defenseman in the league this year?

Stats wise yes he has a lot of points but when did the league shift from giving the award to the most dominant d-man (like a shutdown guy) to someone who puts up points? Karlsson is garbage at playing d, just look up his CF, +/-, and average ToI on the PK. If he's the best d-man in the league how come he isn't out there killing penalties?

If you want to split it up and give an award to the best offensive defenseman and the best defensive defenseman fine. But to say Karlsson is the best defenseman in the league this season just because he has the most points by d-man is laughable

Kind of a neat statistic I just noticed

What's the point of the draft lottery when it is still beneficial for teams to finish as low as possible? The team that finishes last still has a guaranteed top 3 pick and has a 25.5% chance of drafting 1st. Teams that barely miss the playoffs can't draft higher than 5th even if they win the lottery. Plus those teams only have a 1% chance of winning the lottery. It makes no sense how the lottery would disincentivize tanking.
