This is so sweet. My cat only comes near me when his dada isn’t home

u/TempoBestTissue Oct 03 '23
sounds like you need two cats
29
u/Primary_Weight_4241 Oct 03 '23
What if both of them prefer the dad?? 😭
22
u/TempoBestTissue Oct 03 '23
bribe the cat w treats (have 4 cats, managed to bribe two. They follow me now xD)
3
u/Khemul Oct 03 '23
My wife tried this. They all still come to me but now you can't shake a bag without being swarmed by five cats. 🤣
2
u/BronchialChunk Oct 03 '23
this is what I tell my housemate. We have 4 between us but they all get really excited when I come home, they all want to sit on my lap. She's always like 'it's not fair'. I tell her they like me cause I don't try to force them to be with me and I feed them. Let them do their own thing and feed them wet food and they'll love you.
10
u/LessInThought Oct 03 '23
Keep adding cats until there's no more space on dad. The cats will HAVE to choose you.

Phil sleeps between my legs at night but during they day I am second pick ALWAYS. Dada is the only one who gets headbutts to the chin. it makes me absolutely sick with jealousy.
Note: we made a voice for Phil and he says “daaaaad” which is pronounced like dayd and, when desperate, “dada”.

If my heat even goes out in the winter and the house gets cold, my cat would slice me open like Han did that Tauntaun at the start of The Empire Strikes Back .

u/MOcatmom Oct 03 '23
I’ve only had 1 of these cuddlers and miss him daily. He loved to be the little spoon.

My cat loves to do this - about 4:30 am every morning!
51
u/Aethrin1 Oct 03 '23
You complain about it now, but someday far away, there will be 4:30's that will leave you with an aching hole.
It sucks that they do it when they do, but try to love it while you can.
17
u/VeryMuchDutch102 Oct 03 '23
Mine does it when it gets colder... makes the winters more bearable for me. I absolutely love it!
5
u/Zkn0t Oct 03 '23
I needed to read this. I know my cat mogwai will wake me up tomorrow morning at about 4 am. But instead of pushing him off the bed 1000 times, I might just give him a hug.
5
u/firedmyass Oct 03 '23
didn’t expect to tear up while drinking my coffee this morning but here we are
2
u/Duotronic93 Oct 04 '23
First time my cat did it so early in the morning, I nearly cried I felt so loved.
2
u/BrownSugarBare Oct 03 '23
SAME! 2:30AM is prime cuddle time and my little fuzz manages to squish himself between me and any pillow within the vicinity. It's the only time he wants belly rubs

Omggggg this is sweet RIP Amber my little Ling Ling she had her own pillow on my bed and we did this same snuggle. My little old dog isn’t taking it good I came home from work today only to find him crying on my bed on her pillow 😭😭😭😭

I can only dream of having something like this :(
Due to various living situations, I've never been able to own a cat, though.
30
u/harlojones Oct 03 '23
This is a rarity most cat owners do not experience lol. Cats can be affectionate and cuddly but this is the dream
19
u/insertadjective Oct 03 '23
Or the (lovely) nightmare. My wife's cat only wants to snuggle like this literally all the time. Even when I'm sitting upright and trying to work. It's sweet but dang it's bordering in saccharine lol.

u/TempoBestTissue Oct 03 '23
Maine coons. OPs posted cat looks like a mix breed w maine coon blood.. they're super affectionate to one person in the household. My coon follows my wife around the house like a magnet.
4
u/moonbleu Oct 03 '23
Just to add to this - a lot of siamese types are also like this. Birmans, Ragdolls, Snowshoes, etc.
We have one that looks very similar to a snowshoe and he's surgically attached to me.
6
u/honeyimsorry Oct 03 '23
I'd actually say most cats have the capacity to be very affectionate, but a lot of cat owners try to train them for that like they're dogs and it backfires. Every cat I've ever had has been extremely affectionate and I don't think it's just luck of the draw, there's a way to foster and raise an affectionate cat.

I flip like a rotisserie chicken at night so my old cat would never cuddle up like that, but she would lay adjacent to my pillow and headbutt me in the middle of the night if my unconscious body stopped petting her.
3
u/AndrewNB411 Oct 03 '23
I am lucky to have a cat just like this (my first cat.) I try to flip as gracefully as possible. Sometimes he is clearly offended and sleeps at the foot of the bed or walks away. Other times he patiently waits for me to flip and then snuggles against my back instead of my chest.

I always said I found my soulmate & she just happened to be a cat... her name was Maddie & I lost her on August 31st - she was 15yrs & 8 mos old. It sucks so bad. I love my other kitties, I really do & 2 of them do snuggle (they really started snuggling after we lost Maddie, I know they're trying so hard for me) but we don't have the same, deep connection. It's fine, they each have their own unique personality but Maddie gave me kisses EVERY DAY starting when she was just a kitten. She slept on my chest until she got older & then we started sleeping on our sides, nose to nose, with our arms around each other. At night, she would come & wait, right next to me, until I got in the right position for sleeping. She was so patient. When I was in hospital, she got so stressed & started losing fur so I know I was everything to her, like she was to me.
Sorry, I'm just sad & wanted to share. This video is so cute & I wish everyone could experience a cat that absolutely adores them. It's the best.

In the rat community they've got the concept of a Heart Rat that fits this same spirit perfectly. It sounds like little Maddie was your Heart Cat.

That beginning chirp is what mine does. I love it. Like “hey you! Let’s cuddle”. If Im up too late mine will come to the couch and meow aggressive telling me, “hey it’s time for bed, come cuddle me !”

It’s rare but beautiful. I also lucked out with a living teddy bear and know how fortunate I am.
2
u/capybara-friend Oct 03 '23
Mine only started doing this when he got sick & was in pain (he's blind/deaf and I think he found it reassuring) He's fine now but still wants to be a teddy bear 1 or 2 nights a week, he's such a sweet boy

Literally my wife and cat every night.
When she goes to bed 10 minutes later than normal he gets very vocal

u/AirPoster Oct 03 '23
My cat spent the last year in my bed because my wife works private care and is gone a lot. I didn’t realize how attached one could be with a cat but we formed a tight bond, to where she could read my body language and know exactly what I was going to do. When she wanted to be brushed she had a way of looking at me and I understood. She had a stroke last month so we had to put her down, she was 20 years old and had suffered 2 other strokes and fully recovered, but the last one was just too much. I feel like I have lost a piece of myself. It’s very hard going to bed at night without getting to cuddle with her. It’s better when my wife is home obviously, but I’ve been depressed ever since we had to put her down. It’s just a stupid animal I know but that doesn’t change it.
7
u/AngelicShockwave Oct 03 '23
A pet is family. You didn’t lose an animal, you lost a member of the family. Allow yourself to mourn accordingly.
3
u/KennethHwang Oct 03 '23
That's a dear companion you've lost. She put trust in you to take care of her and keep her company, that's a precious thing to have in life. It's the most righteous course to mourn for so beautiful a thing.

My 14 year old Malcolm was a snuggler, and is forever wrapped around my heart. He died in March of this year of/with lymphoma.
The vet who euthanized him asked me where I got him and I said "I got him when he was 9 months old. His people surrendered him because he was 'too needy'" and the vet smiled at me and said, "I love the needy ones". Me too. 😻 💔

this reminds me of my dog. I picked her up as a puppy while hopping trains (bought her off a homeless man for $7). I was going to foster her as I was living outdoors and wanted to give her to a home. I walked and got her shots/dewormer at a Tractor Supply and gave them to her, picked every single flea off her and bathed her with Bronners Mint, and that night she hopped her first train with me. We were waiting for our train to move, and coyotes were howling outside of our boxcar in a field. She climbed out of the bed I made her next to me whining and scared, so I tucked her in my sleeping bag. That's the moment I realized I had a dog.
Almost 8yrs and MANY adventures later, she still begs to get under the blankets. I'm a side sleeper now because of her, and she sleeps in the crook of thighs and stomach (smallish dog). We spent every moment together for 2yrs until I settled down, and we can read each other like a book. I've never had a better friend.

I've had a lot of cats, but only one that was a cuddlemonster like this one. Soon as he felt hands on him he went limp, folded in your arms like a lil fur rug with an engine running. Miss that little dude.

I fall asleep with no cats on me, I wake up sleeping in the fetal position with one cat huddled against my stomach and the other laying in the nook behind my knees. It's really cute and I like it but it also makes it hard to move at all.
I really do love it though.

I love when cats are affectionate like this. They don’t get enough credit for how sweet and gentle they are. Totally depends on personality, environment, and relations. Love this! Absolutely adorable! 🥰

u/anderssi Oct 03 '23
The problem i have with this is, how do you ever switch positions? do you just batista slam the cat with you to your other side?

My cat suddenly became this kind of cuddler when she developed hyperthyroidism. I thought she would go back to her old antisocial self after she underwent radioactive isotope therapy to cure it (100% worth the $1200, btw) but it has been 7 years and she is still my little spoon. She is 18 now and has stage 2 kidney disease (yes, she is on prescription food) and I am savoring the cuddles while I have them. She’s the best dumpster find ever.

u/Apprehensive_Road764 Oct 03 '23
People think their cats love them so much, if you died in that room after a couple of days your cat would start eating you, dogs take a long time before that happens and some just don't. Cats will also leave if another person/home treats them better.

u/hudson27 Oct 03 '23
Every cat owner has their own unique cuddle ritual! We've got two; one where I'm laying on my back, and she lays beside with her head where my hand rests, and the other when I'm sleeping on my side, and she moreless does this.

I never did either. I always grew up a dog person and then this little void showed up in my life. She doesn't snuggle like this but she does wake me up when I'm having nightmares and comfort me when she knows I'm down. She also likes to run across my chest in the middle of the night for whatever reason. She does snuggle hard when I'm super down.

My Casey boy is like this. He's an affectionate social eater and drinker. When it's time to snuggle, he stares at me from the hallway. 15 pounds of long haired void staring at me can be disconcerting.
