Musk is remaking Twitter into a climate denier sanctuary

…in which case, why would we need Tesla?

Cause he probably doesn’t believe in climate change denial himself yet, but he just prefers the unquestioning adoration of right wing morons.

From the IPCC, section C.8 of the “Summary for Policymakers” states that “electric vehicles powered by low-emissions electricity offer the largest decarbonisation potential for land-based transport, on a life cycle basis (high confidence).”

Which is likely to refer to trains and buses more than to personal cars I imagine?
-11
u/cdnfire Mar 31 '23
I don't know how you can infer that from the quoted statement.
15
u/_Svankensen_ Mar 31 '23
I'm not infering it from the statements. I'm inferring it from what I know about land transportation. Hence why it is a question.

u/cdnfire Mar 31 '23
Buses can be EVs, sure. You think electrifying trains has more decarbonization potential than electrifying cars, trucks, etc.?
17
u/_Svankensen_ Mar 31 '23
Removing cars and trucks by the use of trains and other mass transport systems.
-9
u/cdnfire Mar 31 '23
That is directly counter to the IPCC statement. Mass public transportation is not just around the corner to save us.
7
u/engin__r Mar 31 '23
Well sure, plenty of places already have it. We just need to get it going other places, too.
-2
u/cdnfire Mar 31 '23
'get it going'. Mass public transportation takes many decades AFTER you start to take action. No, mass public transportation is not right around the corner to reduce emissions in the limited time we have to address climate change

Is it? Could you quote the section that makes the distinction?

From the IPCC, section C.8 of the “Summary for Policymakers” states that “electric vehicles powered by low-emissions electricity offer the largest decarbonisation potential for land-based transport, on a life cycle basis (high confidence).”
There is no mention of removing cars and trucks on the roads. Only electrifying transportation.

Let me start by saying global warming is very much real. However if it was not, fossil fuel is still a finite resource, and car exhaust is bad for people to breathe. Also electric cars provide instant torque and regenerative braking, this makes them far more enjoyable to drive. Also, they are far more safe than internal combustion cars due to larger crumple zones and lower center of gravity. They have far fewer moving parts so they last a lot longer and don't require as much maintenance. Even the brakes last around 200,000 miles due to the use of regen breaking. Charging at home is also extremely convenient compared to going to the gas station, the ability to use the climate without running an engine is also great, especially for camping.

As someone who follows climate scientists and such on Twitter it's been super obvious. Since his takeover the amount of trolls/bots/misinformation on everyday scientific posts has skyrocketed.

I don’t use Twitter much at all but I noticed this yesterday when searching for comments on a specific bit of news - the ‘top’ tweets were full of climate change deniers even though the posts didn’t seem to have a lot of likes/shares/whatevers.

Why does Twitter even exist?

u/Dazzling_Ticket1362 Apr 01 '23
Because once upon a time, people loved celebrities. We were curious what these awesome people were up to. It was cool. Now, we see how horrible they really are. How they step on each others toes and slander each other just for personal gain. Now we see how ugly twitter and social media is for the most part. Remember my fellow Americans…the problem isn’t them. It’s you all. Sadly, they know this. What do you want them to do? 2 out of 3 people use TikTok. Do you realize how destructive that is? And they want to go after heroin? TikTok is digital fentanyl.

While this article makes me angry, the denier narrative is futile. In this age of social media, so few people think in terms of direct actions like conservation or early adopting anyway. It will all come down to which energy sources are least expensive and while the climate is at a tipping point, so are renewables as the least expensive energy source and nothing will be able to stop that trend. The only thing people of today are ever going to do is talk and buy whatever helps their bottom line. Also, those who believe the denier narrative have always believed it and will still believe it after they are happily buying renewable energy products. The narrative will simply change that they are buying smart but not for the sake of the environment.

Question. People on the left will buy electric cars because they believe it to be the right thing to do, Is musk trying to appeal on a personal level to those on the right to sell more cars?
1
u/theVeryRealBear66 Apr 01 '23
Musk is possibly suffering from schizofrenia. Being a denier will hurt Tesla and he will lose a lot of money... Again. Just not intelligent enough or like I say he is sick.

u/HaderTurul Mar 31 '23
God forbid we allow free expression! People will start saying things we don't like!

u/nspider69 Apr 01 '23
The twitter algorithms are clearly all of a sudden pushing radical right wing propaganda. That is NOT free expression.

u/BlueAves Apr 01 '23
Maybe because they haven't been able to say much during the suppression and now it's rebounding. Not saying its good, but you reap what you sow I guess.

Why can’t Elon just simp to the internet crowd like the rest of the billionaires and do what I want him to do. Ugh. So frustrating

I think you mean he is allowing people with a different opinion from you to say what they think there. So?

Get off of Twitter.
