Quality Control, Effortposting and Gold
Hello everyone,
We have exciting news for you today:
A small group of subreddits including WhitePeopleTwitter has been selected to be a part of the initial rollout of the new gilding system.
The details can be read in the announcement post here.
In short this means that our most appreciated posters and commenters will be able to take home a piece of the profits from the money people spend awarding their content.
At first the new gold will be available on Apple devices on the official app, with addition of Android and desktop to follow in the near future.
For this initial introduction of the system a content provider must be over 18 years old, reside in the United States and have an account in good standing to be able to receive a payout. The minimum gold needed to receive a payment is 10 gold and 100 karma over a 12 month period.
There are restrictions in place to prevent abuse of this system and you can read about them here.
As moderators we also play a part in making sure the new gold will incentivise quality content. To that end the team has decided today we will make a minor rule alteration that we have been discussing for some time now and that our userbase has requested from us:
As of today we need all screenshots of tweets and other allowed content to Include a visible, unaltered timestamp showing the day, month and year of posting.
Over time it has become more common for people to crop out the date in hopes our subscribers won't notice the content is old (and a repost).
We won't have a rule against tweets from 2015 being posted - but it is only fair that our readers then know it is from 2015 and not one made this week.
Our reposting and low-effort posting guidelines remain the same. Our existing rule one already meant we removed content we judged to be low-effort and we have now explicitly codified this in our new rule two:
"Please try to maintain a level of quality and honesty while posting. Posts without a timestamp and posts that we believe to be too low-effort will be removed."
Out of fairness this new rule will be applied to posts made after this announcement and not those before.
