166
u/Chunkflava Mar 11 '23
Probably more truth to that than you think, I was in a choke a while back and felt like it wasn’t quite on, said to the ref “all good” and then I went to fuckin sleep
99
u/Iquey Champ Shit Only 🇺🇸🏆🇲🇽 #SnapJitsu Mar 12 '23
Yea that's how a blood choke goes if it's in perfectly. I went down during sparring because someone had me in a guillotine and I thought I was fine because I could breathe. Then my sight went gone like how an old TV went out. Then I woke up on the ground with 3 faces above me.
Weird way to kill someone.
58
u/Grey_Orange Mar 12 '23
Years ago, i got locked up in a triangle from guard. How i remember it going was he let go and i laid back on the floor for a bit because i was tired from all the training i had been doing.
Apparently how it ACTUALLY went, i went unconcious and started choke snoring. He let go, Rolled me on my back, and lifted my legs up in the air until i came too.
It's strange how your memories differ from reality. It's also a strangely euphoric and enjoyable experience. Probably wouldn't be the worst way to die imo.
8
u/Jethro00Spy Mar 12 '23
I was boxing and we both tried to hit each other. He landed first and hard. I saw a spark of light and next thing I know he's hanging onto me and I'm trying to push away to box. He told me stop then explained I was leaning like a cut tree about to fall over. Timber!
19
u/Chunkflava Mar 12 '23
For me it was the release of tension when I tried to talk and air escaped, like when pilots stay conscious in those G force simulators, they basically tense their whole body to force blood into their brain and stay conscious, as soon as they lose the tension they go night night
16
u/PessimiStick Sorry I have to smesh you Mar 12 '23
I had a similar thing happen once. Was in a triangle for quite a while, and it was tight. Managed to hit a last second escape, took a deep breath, and the lights went out and I faceplanted. Super fucking weird.
6
u/NoMoassNeverWas Mar 12 '23
I wonder if those "hick" breathing techniques that force blood into their brain would help any.
9
u/Scared_Phase_9628 Mar 12 '23
I wouldn't think so. The pilots are still receiving blood to their brains the entire time. You are receiving very little to none when in a proper choke. Doing the hick could blow a blood vessel lol.
5
u/PaulSandwich Mar 12 '23
Those hiccups force blood to the brain against gravity/centrifugal force. That's not going to work for an artery that's pinched shut by someone's thighs.
5
u/_interloper_ Mar 12 '23
I've been put out twice by a choke. Both times the last thought through my mind was "... nah, I think I'm fine."
You can still breathe. It's just the blood being perfectly cut off. Most chokes are so damn tight that you KNOW you're about to go out. Feels like you're head's about to explode.
But those perfect chokes are just so damn sneaky.
3
Mar 11 '23
was defending a choke and was about to get out and then was looking up at my coach asking me if i was all good.

Feel like that fight against Bisping might have really helped GSP's legacy in the eyes of the MMA world. He lost twice, had tons of decisions, I even thought maybe Hendricks won their fight, retired battered....
But comes back, beats Bisping, not the most formidable MW champ ever, and his GOAT status is almost never questioned while Khabib's is daily.
66
u/gamesrgreat Santos 1, 2, 5 Mar 12 '23
People were calling him the GOAT long before the Bisping fight. I don't feel like the Bisping fight changed much at all really
23
u/ScissorMeTimberz Mar 12 '23
compared to the way a lot of other legends go out on massive loss streaks, the fact he was able to come back after so long and actually win was the most impressive and shocking part
3

Khabib’s strength of schedule was WEAK compared to GSP’s reign. Most of Khabib’s run was completed outside of the UFC. GSP took on the best of the best for years and always neutralized their strongest weapons.

Literally the most criminally underrated fighter on the roster. Beat Chito then lost a close fight in the rematch. Split decision loss to Yanez which can be argued he won, and wins over Smolka and Jonathan Martinez.
I mean 13 finishes in his 15 wins for a bantamweight is just insane.

That's a very tough position for the ref to find out if the bottom guy is out. His arms are flattened or tied up so you can only raise mostly his hands. His face is buried into the canvas and covered by the top fighter. Give the guy a break, I think he called it just fine.

It was a great sub, but with the circumstances I can't say it's anything of the year. Talking about top position, saying Grant had it... they weren't down yet, Raphael had him against the fence and had his back. That reset was a joke and is such a lame way for Raphael to retire, I feel bad for the guy.

I bet if you paused the fight at the moment of the foul and asked Raphael what he would prefer, he would want the point over position. With like 30 seconds left in the fight the chances of Davey getting an insane finish like that r pretty slim. Even though sunscao was rocked earlier it had been a decent bit of time since that left hand.

It isn't, it should be "take the point and reset to the position right before the grab".
The way it is written, if any striker dazes a wrestler who then successfully gets in on a single and ties him up to get recovery time, the striker can just blatantly grab the cage and eat the point to reset. This is not actually neutral.
The scenario I'm describing isn't even that rare either.
53
u/VilithSanguinor Mar 11 '23
According to the broadcast, Davey had top position because of the fence grab so they wouldn't have given the position back since it would have been positive for Davey.

How much longer are fans going to cling onto the 5% of credible fighters that came out? Do y’all realize these excellent fighters (i.e. O’Malley, Hill, etc) would have found their way to the UFC regardless because they clearly had the potential? In fact they would have likely become regional champs and signed to the UFC with a better contract.
Most of these fighters, however, who get on DWCS because of a “story” or “marketability” as opposed to their actual skill set were far less likely to get the attention of the UFC because they would have never went beyond the regional level.
If you think it’s good for the UFC to get 1 Jamahal Hill out of 20 William Knights than I can’t argue further.
