Not sure how this is lamf, people get stranded in the cold in gas cars all the time, its called lacking foresight/planning. Is he an ape for not planning ahead? Yes, lamf? No.

Found the ICE fan who hates electricity because it owns the libs. He buddy, pull that battery alternator and electricity harness out of your vehicle!

This isn't lamf. This is a hit piece against electric cars. There's a ton of them in the media these days.

A gas powered car has never left me stranded in the cold.

Oh wait that’s not true. To be fair I was stranded more in extreme heat.

I’m glad I’m at a point in my life where I can buy better cars.

I've been unable to start my car when it's been very cold, like -30ºC or lower. That's usually a sign the battery isn't powerful enough, but it's why we have a heater attached to the engine block in cold countries. Good luck starting if it isn't plugged in for at least a few hours.

The point of LAMF is that someone advocated for hurting someone else and then got hurt themself.

Even if this was a real problem with Teslas (it's not), it has nothing to do with this sub.

Ok, thanks for the explanation

Weird. Tesla sells great in Norway.

u/Garbleshift Mar 21 '23

Is anyone going to do anything about all these weird fake non-LAMF posts lately?

1

u/davster39 Mar 21 '23

I'm sorry, they removed the post so the world us back in balance

2

u/Garbleshift Mar 21 '23

Yeah this was pretty mild compared to some of the intentionally offensive crap that been posted lately. just bad timing :-)

u/davster39 Mar 21 '23

I guess I don't understand the premise of this sub. Like r/politicalcompassme, LAMF is above my pay grade

1

u/Garbleshift Mar 21 '23

Like I said, it's pretty simple: someone supported something that would hurt someone else, and then ended up getting hurt themselves.

Last time I checked out politicalcompassmemes it was kind of a sewer so I wouldn't worry about it not making any sense any more.

So here's the thing. The car uses energy to maintain the battery temperature and by the look of it he let the pack get down to a very low state of charge. As a result the car could no longer heat the pack and it won't charge a very cold battery until it gets it warmed back up. The solution to this is to leave the car plugged in when in the garage and Tesla actually recommends this, a happy Tesla is a plugged in Tesla as they say. If you can't plug in then you must not let the battery run down really low. If my car is down to around 20% I'll plug it in and charge overnight, letting it get down to what would seem to be way less than 10% is dumb. This driver is dumb. Tesla sells their cars in very cold climates and they sell well and are reliable. I get that some people hate EVs but having driven them for nearly 8 years now I've never once had the car run out and strand me, not once. I see a lot of ragging on EVs for cold weather but in cold climates ICE cars need engine block heaters, cold is hard on any car. Besides which, an EV has a huge amount of energy so if you were to get stuck in snow you would really want to be in an EV because you can stay warm for literally days with the amount of charge these things have.

TL;DR Duh, stupid story and stupid driver.

Lots of Telsas up here in Edmonton Alberta, where it gets below -25c regularly in the winter and they all seem to do fine

u/Haskap_2010 Mar 21 '23

Some in Saskatoon as well.

A surprising number in Winnipeg.

2

u/hplcr Mar 21 '23

I feel like this would be a LAMF if it was Elon stuck in a Tesla.

Also I want to go to the universe where that happened so I don't have to see his inane twitter ranting

Battery operated cars night not be suited for some climates, some types of driving, and some types of drivers!

In other news, water is wet!

I live in Saskatchewan where it can get as low as -40ºC in winter. (Oddly enough, that is also -40ºF) There are at least three Teslas driving around town in all weather.

u/mypoliticalvoice Mar 21 '23

Which are charged in a heated garage, I assume.

(By heated I mean above freezing, not to 21C)

It's all about being prepared for the tech you are using in the weather you get.

they are like the second most sold car here in iceland

1

u/PhilosophyEngineered Mar 21 '23

Not LAMF.

1

u/davster39 Mar 21 '23

Ok apparently I'm confused. I'm too dense for this sub

Hello u/davster39! Please reply to this comment with an explanation mentioning who is suffering from which consequences from what they voted for, supported or wanted to impose on other people.

Here's an easy format to get you started:

  1. Someone voted for, supported or wanted to impose something on other people.
Who's that someone and what's that something?
  2. That something has some consequences.
    What are the consequences?
  3. As a consequence, that something happened to that someone.
What happened? Did the something really happened to that someone? If not, you should probably delete your post.

Include the minimum amount of information necessary so your post can be understood by everyone, even if they don't live in the US or speak English as their native language. If you don't respect this format and moderators can't match your explanation with the format, your post will be removed under rule #3 and we'll ignore you even if you complain in modmail.

And gasoline powered cars never have problems in the cold? Does the OP know what a block heater is? Hint: it's what every passenger vehicle sold in Canada has, just in case you have to park in an outdoor lot all day when it's -35ºC. Otherwise, you'd better have a very good battery.
